The great increase in the number of legal actions against physicians is one of the factors that may contribute for the doctor to act ( consciously or unconsciously ) defensively toward his/her patient. In doing so, the physician tends to deal with the person under his care in a more mechanical manner, and with less spontaneity, in order to protect his/her credibility.
